Cloverfield Monster Revealed... In 1953?

Sprinkle some paranoia into a Cold War era monster movie and you get The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms.
This movie was made in 1953 and tells the story of a mutant monster who ransacks New York City. Essentially, nuclear fallout wakes the monster up and he quickly heads toward Coney Island to ride the roller coasters. So, stick some isotopes into a shotgun and stop the havoc!

  1. very possible. the following compliments of wikipedia:

"In the film, the beast apparently lives in the submarine canyons 150 miles (240 km) off the coast of New York, although in the film the Rhedosaurus was discovered frozen in the arctic, suggesting that these fictional dinosaurs migrated throughout their lives. At over a hundred feet long, these beasts dwarf the New York buildings. The Rhedosaurus in question carries a terrible fatal disease from the past, which is possibly more dangerous than the beast itself. The "last" Rhedosaurus meets its end in Coney Island's roller coaster, when the hero, Tom Nesbitt, and army sharpshooter Corporal Stone fire a radioactive isotope into a wound in the beast's neck (caused by a rocket propelled grenade earlier in the film), the isotope apparently destroys the diseased tissue. During the final event, the rollercoaster train used to get the heroes on top of the structure runs out of control and flies off a broken section of track (which the beast had previously bitten off) and hits several flammable barrels at the base of the wooden structure, causing a massive fire. The beast finally breaks out of its fiery prison, only to die dramatically on the beach outside (in Rhedosaurus and the Roller Coaster, Harryhausen laughs that director Eugene Lourie compared its death to a "tenor in the opera")."
