Heath Ledger action figures are flying off shelves

5/15/08 | Labels: , , | 0 comments |

Photo from New York Post

Hey ya'll, Charlie here. See that action figure above? That action figure is Mattel's Joker action figure from The Dark Knight. I would highly suggest you get one, but good luck finding one first. Why? Because rumor has it that Mattel will reissue a redesigned action figure. Again, why? Directly from Wired's Blog:

Ledger's death -- and his remarkably creepy look and performance -- is causing trouble for toy licensee Mattel. Depending on what report you read, The Joker action figure for the Dark Knight is either too scary for kids or too close to Ledger's real likeness to be respectful to his memory.

This has made the action figure a collector's item. It has been flying off shelves like someone is giving away free money. According to another source, the action figure sold out at the Toys R' Us in Times Square in minutes! It has been selling for over $50 on ebay.

Just another interesting tidbit from the Dark Knight world.

Aaron Eckhart: Not just another pretty face

With all the viral world of Batman's The Dark Knight it's easy to skip over some of the real articles featuring the movie. The L.A. Times recently took time to sit down with the talented Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent, A.K.A. Two-face). I've always enjoyed Eckhart since he won me over with his role in Thank you for Smoking, a good flick to get an idea of how two-face Eckhart can really be!

My Dark Knight guru Charlie pointed me to this L.A. Times article with Eckhart as they discuss the movie, the re-invention of the Joker, and his role as Harvey Dent.

Here's a much better quality video of the latest Dark Knight trailer we all talked about last week. It sure beats the shaky, handheld cell-phone versions from last week!

Thanks to the resident Dark Knight guru Charlie you can download (or view) the high-def version yourself from the latest WhySoSerious Happy Trails viral site.

Joker's Plan: Viewing The Latest Dark Knight Trailer

4/28/08 | Labels: , , , , | 0 comments |

batman dark knight viral postersThe Joker has produced a secret screening of the latest Dark Knight Trailer. Participants unlocked codes and clues to find themselves on a scavenger hunt. More details from First Showing indicate a safe having to be cracked by lucky participants for clues.

Here's what went down in London:

I just got back from the trailer...it was quite crazy...they handed us Joker cards and a raffle ticket.

They then handed a tin to some guy in the crowd and told us all to walk to the Odeon cinema.

We all sat down in anticipation...and they showed us the trailer....and AWESOME AWESOME trailer!!!

At then end of the trailer, they called out a raffle ticket number and some lucky guy got the reel of the actual trailer...lets see if it comes up online. ;-) (source)
The lucky winner! (source)
Thanks for tip, Charlie.

Nicely done, Joker. You have successfully gathered your troops. For those of us unlucky enough to decorate ourselves in Joker masks we'll have to wait to see the trailer one of two ways. Either online bootleg or wait until the alleged release of the trailer with the upcoming Speed Racer flick.

"Welcome to a world without rules..."

My official Dark Knight Viral guru Charlie has pinpointed a new Batman poster and link to a new Dark Knight viral site as mentioned on /Film. First off, the new poster features a killer outline of the Batman logo in flames with the tagline "Welcome to a world without rules.

Very nice!

Second, there is a new viral site up at WhySoSerious.com, the site of the Jokers online antics. Or at least his main site. This new page features images of Presidents of the U.S. decked out in Joker makeup. There's a counter at the bottom saying that in "three days' (of this post) something will happen.

Very curious...

Batman Viral: Operation Slipknot Has Begun

4/24/08 | Labels: , , , | 0 comments |

batman dark knight viralWanted! "Operation Slipknot"

Our pal Charlie has been keeping us up to date on the Batman: The Dark Knight viral world. He pointed out that the Gotham Police Dept. is sending him some emails for his involvement. The viral world of the Batman movie is one of the most involved I have ever seen. With the implementation of "Operation Slipknot" today (details below) there have been a couple of more viral sites and even more questions emerging.

I'll try to brush over some of the viral sites for Batman that are active right now. Some of this might be redundant to a few but bear with me as I try to catch up.

Gotham Police Department Major Crimes Unit (GPDMCU)

Det. Jim Gordon is issuing e-mails to people like Charlie to help get involved to nab some criminals. Their latest effort is "Operation Slipknot." Here is the first message sent in by reader Charlie:

OPERATION SLIPKNOT

Within the last twenty-four hours, many of your colleagues intercepted packages intended for the 30 fugitives pictured here.

These informants are now receiving this critical evidence.

MCU is standing by. We need the information in the packages to be uploaded AS SOON AS IT IS RECEIVED. We will process the information and implement our final apprehension/extradition plans by 6:00 pm.

Time is of the essence. Do not let these suspects escape the long arm of Gotham City justice at the last minute. Upload the information immediately.
/Film has broken down the site some more to help us all catch up. When you enter in the information into the "Operation Slipknot" site they claim you'll receive this message:

"Gotham Police Major Crimes Unit, in cooperation with the GPD Internal Affairs Division, needs you to help track down numerous offenders that are fugitives from justice. Interestingly, we’ve tracked all of these individuals to the same last known location: Gotham Intercontinental Hotel. But we don’t know where they’ve gone from there.

Call the hotel and convince the concierge to ship you a certain package that’s been sent there for each fugitive. Use the provided intel and whatever means you can to convince him that you’re the intended recipient, your travel plans have changed, and he needs to send the package to you. Once received, you should have all you need to fill in the blanks as to that fugitive’s location.

We will add details about additional fugitives as they become available. Time is of the essence, as we have only a short time before the trail runs cold. Your cooperation in this operation will go a long way. Good luck." (source)
Gotham Intercontinental Hotel

batman dark knight viralAs you can see there is another link embedded in there for the Gotham Intercontinental Hotel. Once there you can call the phone number (1-866-306-5589) on the bottom of the page and leave a message for the concierge. It's a recording stating they cannot answer your call but if you wait about 20 seconds after that a message system comes up.

Film School Rejects claims : "If you click on the “Assignment” button at the top right of the screen (of "Operation Slipknot"), you will see that you need to call the Gotham Intercontinental Hotel Concierge (1-866-306-5589) and convince them to send you a care package that has been left there for each of the listed fugitives. Once you receive that package, it will show you all of the information you need to proceed.

Clown Travel Agency

It looks like a lot of roots for "Operation Slipknot" began with the games from ClownTravelAgency.com from earlier this month. To get caught up on the Travel Agency see here for details. It involves some purple bowling balls. But the mastermind behind this game wasn't Heath Ledger's Joker. Nope. It was Commissioner Jim Gordon of the GPDMCU and his clever April's Fool Joke.

batman dark knight viralThe Clown Travel Agency led people to the Acme Security Systems (their main page here, the viral password goes here) where you enter in a password to get a voice verification. Try this yourself and you'll get a message from Gordon telling you he's now going to get you to work for him. Listen to the message from Gordon.

Whew! That should get us up to date on the GPDMCU aspect of the viral arm of Batman. Or, does it?

Kinsey Travel Agency

batman dark knight viralWith the "Slipknot" site out today there is reports of a new travel agency called Kinsey Travel Agency. It looks like there's a spot to enter a flight number for more info.

The Dark Knight Viral campaign is being spearheaded by 4orty 2wo Entertainment. They're doing a great job of keeping the fans busy while waiting for the movie to appear.

New Dark Knight Viral Message from Gotham Police Department

4/20/08 | Labels: , , , , | 0 comments |

Some readers have received an email from Gotham Police Lt. Jim Gordon. Here's a copy of the email from Charlie who believes he received it from signing up with the Harvey Dent campaign. Thanks for the copy, Charlie.

My friend,

Indictments are about to be handed down. If you don't want your name on one, we'll need your full cooperation in an upcoming operation. In case you haven't heard, we are struggling with a bit of corruption in the department. I'm not about to let the Gotham PD collapse in on itself, so we're taking action.

We've identified a group of offenders that need to be apprehended. Problem is, most of these cops are hightailing it out of the city. But a C.I. just like you just gave us some information on their last known whereabouts. Now all we need is to catch them.

This is where you come in.
Consider yourself on deck. I'll contact you next week, and let's just say it's in your best interest to play along. County's not a place you want to spend the rest of your life.

Lt. Jim Gordon, MCU
The email originates from the the Gotham Police Department Major Crimes Unit (GPDMCU) who are online as well as the Gotham Police Department. It looks like the GPD is still recruiting new cadets if you're interested.

Overall it looks like the viral work for Batman is coming along real nicely. The GPD sites are nice and you can contact the MCU (along with Jim Gordon) at this contact@gpdmcu.com.

If you contact them you should get an auto response:

Thank you for contacting Gotham Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit.

If this is regarding a major crime, we will route your email to the correct individual and follow up the lead.

If this is regarding a minor crime, please contact another unit.

Thank you.

The Gotham Times/ Joker Update

4/3/08 | Labels: , , , , | 0 comments |

Thanks to Charlie for the tip on the Gotham Times updating. Harvey Dent ran his DA campaign a few weeks back and the Gotham Times reported on it as well as the Joker hijacking the site and giving his version. Turns out Harvey Dent is in need for a new toupee.

The Gotham Times is a 4 page issue but if you click on the "ha" in the "GoTHam" title on top you'll go to the Joker's version called the Ha Ha Times. Each of the 4 pages gets a different perspective edited by the Joker himself.

Taste For The Theatrical Trailer Speculation

3/20/08 | Labels: , , , , | 2 comments |

The rumored date for a new Dark Knight trailer has come and gone. There was some speculation that the latest trailer for the Batman sequel was going to appear online at a Taste For The Theatrical, a viral website centering around the Joker.

So, when will the trailer come out? Charlie wrote in with his theory:

"The number it gives on the left of the screen is "28". It also says "sunday" on the right. My guess is that the movie trailer will air on the weekend of the 28th of march."
It makes sense and sounds good. Thanks, Charlie. A few major movies have followed this style of having the new trailer up on their site after the weekend movie rush. So with the 28th being on a Friday and the viral site saying on Sunday you can take it home it looks like we might see the addition then.

The 28th Friday new releases are the card-counting drama "21", the Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek's Scotty) Run, Fat Boy, Run , the Iraq war drama Stop-Loss, and Demi Moore in Flawless. I'll keep an eye out on Sunday to see if anything pops up.

Batman Viral - Harvey Dent Hits The Road

3/14/08 | Labels: , , , , | 0 comments |

Elect Harvey Dent

The viral campaign for the upcoming Batman sequel, The Dark Knight, is shifting its focus onto Gotham City politician Harvey Dent. To help clean up the city of crime and corruption, Harvey Dent is campaigning across the country to promote his campaign.
Get up close and personal with the campaign to convince Harvey Dent to run for DA!

We’re going across the country to rally support for Dent! So check the map and schedule below to see when the Dentmobile might come to your neighborhood! Meet up with other Dent supporters and and help us campaign in your streets. Join the movement that’s sweeping Gotham! (source)
I like the fact that Warner Bros. is keeping the viral aspect of The Dark Knight alive. The untimely death of Heath Ledger, who plays the Joker in the movie, left the producers with a challenge on how to proceed without the Joker. The viral campaign up to this point was mildly involving Harvey Dent. For the most part it was the Joker messing with Dent's campaign or the Gotham Times.

Batman Viral Site Gets New Trailer?

3/9/08 | Labels: , , | 0 comments |

A cryptic message has been uploaded to ATasteForTheTheatrical, a viral site for the new Batman movie. The message osted next to a faux ad for a mobile home trailer reads:

"Sunday. It's what you've been waiting for! Sure, you can see it on display, but beginning this Sunday, you can take it home for your very own!"

Be sure to check it out Sunday to see what goods they might deliver. On this site you'll find the link to the first trailer above the message as well as links to The Gotham Times and The Ha Ha Ha Times. Click on their images below to view.

New "The Dark Knight" Viral Campaign Launched

3/2/08 | Labels: , , , | 0 comments |

The viral websites for the upcoming Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" have been active for almost a year now. After the tragic death of Heath Ledger who plays the Joker in the film, the producers seemed to take a little time off of the viral work.

In the past there have been viral sites linked to the Joker as well as Harvey Dent and it looks like this week that the Harvey Dent site has updated.

According to ENI News:

A new Havery Dent viral marketing campaign for the upcoming "The Dark Knight" movie has begun over at ibelieveinharveydent.com.

The site states the following:

"WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE GOTHAM CITY. SOON YOU'LL FIND OUT HOW"

You can then sign-up with your email address. Once you do that you will get an email that says the following:

"Citizens of Gotham! The future of our city rests in your hands!

Alone, we are helpless against the thugs and killers menacing our city.

Together, we have the power to take back Gotham.

In just a few days, you'll find out how.
