Cloverfield Movie Plot Summerized

| Labels: , , , , , , | 2 comments |

cloverfieldThe (new) official site for the Cloverfield Movie has updated their menu to include a plot summary.

While this Cloverfield Movie summary does not really offer new information, it does pin down some clues that had us all wondering. The Cloverfield Monster is officially pegged as being the size of a skyscraper and the video style of the Cloverfield Teaser Trailer looks to be in utilized for the picture.

"Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city.

Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives."

‘Cloverfield’ fans are Paramount’s slave-labor marketing bitches

Via Flickfilosopher, a critics take on the Cloverfield marketing.

Cloverfield is back. Remember the trailer for an unnamed movie everyone was so excited about a few months back, the one before Transformers about a mysterious monster attacking New York and knocking the head off the Statue of Liberty? There’s a second trailer now: it debuted before Beowulf over the Thanksgiving weekend and immediately afterward started showing up on YouTube in an impossible-to-watch cell-phone-cam version.

I watched it anyway, and found myself getting a little cheesed off. Not about the movie itself, but about how Paramount is marketing this. I can’t go into a press screening without having my bag rifled and my body wanded in search of cameras and other recording devices -- when I upgraded my cell phone recently, I made a point of getting one without a camera in it so I wouldn’t have to check it with the minimum-wage “security” guards who regularly harass we critics and our guests at screenings. It’s not like those pristine DVDs and downloads of new movies are coming from critics sneaking their cameraphones into press screenings, but we get subjected to this anyway.

But Cloverfield makes it clear, I think, that Paramount wanted geeks to camcord that new trailer, wanted it to end up on YouTube. Perhaps no one in Paramount’s marketing department realized that the first teaser trailer would be such a viral hit on the Web this summer, but they had to know the second one would be. This is the first movie for which “piracy” is a planned part of the marketing.

You can now watch that new trailer (as well as the teaser) in crisp, clear, “official” versions at Apple.com, and it’s even more obvious that it was not primarily intended to be seen in theaters but in a format you can freeze and rewind and rewatch. Lots of intriguing stuff slips by a mere frames. And, of course, you don’t have to bother with analyzing it yourself: All the Cloverfield nerds have done it for you. At CloverfieldNews.com, there’s an ongoing discussion about what each and every shadowy image and garbled sound might be. The sprawling Cloverfield fan community has even ferreted out a connection between the movie and Heroes.

Some folks, like my fellow Film.com contributor Eric D. Snider, are tired of all the coyness on the part of Cloverfield producer JJ Abrams and all the literal gameplaying required to figure out what the damn movie is about. I figure the gameplaying isn’t meant for us grownups but for kids with tons of time on their hands. Who else could be able to post something like this: “For the last few weeks, we have been devoting all of our time to the myspace accounts of the characters.” Seriously? All your time? To a movie that hasn’t even opened yet, and might turn out to suck. (That site, Cloverfield Project, hasn’t been updated since August, so perhaps someone got a life.)

I wonder if all these folks realize that they’ve become unpaid marketing managers for a multibillion-dollar corporation. (source)

Cloverfield Makes Yahoo! Front Page

11/27/07 | Labels: , , , , , , , , | 0 comments |

After being immersed in the 1-18-08/Cloverfield situation for months, it's nice to see the Cloverfield viral aspect take off. Up to now with the release of the 2nd trailer it has been rather mundane, with a few uninteresting MySpace pages and "Jamie Loves Teddy" page that may not even be related.

On the front page of Yahoo! this morning there is a feature post on the Cloverfield Movie. A small section is dedicated to the teaser and full length trailer. Also a very sparse picture section with only the poster and one picture when I checked it.

jj abrams cloverfield monster movie 1-18-08
The bulk of the Yahoo! spread is centered around the Internet buzz. Yahoo! runs their buzz section based on Internet searches, kinda like Google Trends. Only Yahoo! breaks it down more like a blog post. They break down the keywords, like 1-18-08 and Cloverfield Clues along with Cthulhu to show you what people are looking for.

The Tagruato website has been a nice addition but it didn't get going until last week when it was "Hacked," fixed, and then updated. New pictures, about 15-20, have flooded the Internet along with the teaser and full length trailers.

A new official website for the movie, Cloverfieldmovie.com, was rolled out and a small bit of advertising appeared. A brand new poster featuring the "Cloverfield" title was also released. Even the hit TV show Heroes featured characters drinking the viral Slusho.

Cloverfield News : Tagruato Website Under Construction

11/26/07 | Labels: , , , , , , , , | 2 comments |

The long Thanksgiving weekend is over and I'm still full of turkey and stuffing. Everything from my template to sitemeter to youtube was down at least part of the weekend which is extremely frustrating.

Another site that was down was the Tagruato Corp. website (see: TAGRUATO IS DESTROYING OUR OCEANS) which was "Hacked" and an image with the caption "Tagruato is destroying the world's oceans" was put in place of everything.

Today, the site is still not up but there is what looks like an "Under Construction" symbol present. The previous picture that the "hackers" put up is riddled with clues, according to many fans. There are roman numerals and names hidden in the drawings.

For a more detailed description of those findings check out this post at Cloverfield Clues.

TAGRUATO IS DESTROYING OUR OCEANS

11/23/07 | Labels: , , , , , , , , | 2 comments |

tagruatoThe original template for my site has been fixed and as you can see is up and running. Hopefully, there won't be that problem again.

While I was doing the usual run through of the various Cloverfield related sites I saw that the Tagruato Corp site has been set up to looked "hacked."

It looks like environmental concerns, which have been debated as a possible storyline in various circles, is starting to show up.

The "hacker" claimes Tagruato Corp is destroying the oceans with its drilling and exploitation. An image is set in place of the website which used to have a nice, multi-page site with detailed descriptions of Tagruato and its subsidiaries, which include Slusho.

japanese waveThe image in place shows the chairman with devil horns photoshoped in along with various pictures drawn into the blank areas. The ocean is dirtied up and includes a nice rendention of the famous "Japanese Wave" woodblock print, The Great Wave, by Katsushika Hokusai.

Also drawn in are a crab, jelly fish, really ugly fish, and a octopus. The image is also labeled image #9 which makes me wonder if they have more in line to plug into this "Hacked" theme or not.

New Official Cloverfield Poster

cloverfield-poster/Film got their mitts on the new official Cloverfield Poster. The title has been added to the bottom instead of the top as earlier this summer (See: )

Also noted in the unFiction area, there seems to be a rather obvious lack of Liberty Island with that black shape below the Statue of Liberty. However, that is just the base of the statue blacked out to give that illusion.

Slusho Meets Heroes

11/20/07 | Labels: , , , , , | 1 comments |

NBC's hit TV show, Heroes, has more in common with Cloverfield than Greg Grunberg. Director/producer Greg Beeman has posted some relevant pictures in regard to Cloverfield.

I noticed in the comments that blkrose saw these pictures of the Heroes online and that someone else on unFiction found that Beeman staged various cast members of Heroes with Slusho cups on his blog.

Here's how Beeman described the photos:

"Now, the next group of photos falls into the “don’t ask/don’t tell” category. I credit Greg Yaitanes for staging all these pix, under the supervision of Joe Pokaski. Their cultural significance will become clear in the coming months, so… pay attention!"

Cloverfieldmovie.com Is Up And Running !

Cloverfield now officially has its own website.

With the latest trailer released this week, the J.J. Abrams produced monster flick was officially given its name as "Cloverfield."

With the addition of the Hi-Resolution trailer to the Apple trailer site, the domain name cloverfieldmovie.com went active. Thanks for the Anonymous tip whoever you may be.

For now the cloverfieldmovie.com site only redirects to the Apple trailer site, but we can expect some updates soon.

cloverfield movie trailerA quick viewing of the new Hi-Resolution Cloverfield trailer had something strike me as odd. I have yet to check with UnFiction to see what all they dug up, but hopefully some of these can be useful.

First off, did they redo the entire scene where Rob enters his Farewell Party?

Sure enough they did.

Cloverfield Trailer MovieThe High-Resolution and HD versions of the new Cloverfield Trailer have been updated to the official Apple Trailers site.

Let the analysis begin!

Here's a few screen caps to get started.

First, the Cloverfield Monster makes an appearance in the background as soldiers fire from the ground. It walks past the buildings, very Godzilla-like.

cloverfield monster movie posterI've always enjoyed the simple Cloverfield Poster that was released a few months back. It's simple yet informative. We can see the destruction of the Cloverfield Monster along with the simple release date of 1-18-08.

I was hoping that they wouldn't ruin the poster if they kept it for promotions. Cloverfield Clues got a first look at how they titled the poster now that it has a name, "Cloverfield."

They have added the title nicely to the poster to the bottom part along the water ripples. The Cloverfield title fits rather nicely, unlike the dreaded "Monstrous" poster that popped out in July. Much better.

Updated New Cloverfield Trailers

| Labels: , , , , , | 1 comments |

Until the boys at Bad Robot decide to post the trailer to the official site (which begs the question why wouldn't they put it up in the first place?) we'll have to settle for the YouTube versions. Unfortunately, these get pulled down by the studio but there are enough out there to keep us going.

Here are some updated Cloverfield trailer videos, both embedded and some linked below in case some get taken down.

Even More Cloverfield Pictures

11/16/07 | Labels: , , , , , , , , , | 0 comments |

jj abrams cloverfield movie 1-18-08More new pictures from Cloverfield keep rolling in. This time a nice chap at UnFiction has tipped all of us onto a site called Beyond Hollywood which has 6 nice, HQ pics as seen below.

(from BH) "Meanwhile, some new images from the movie have arrived in our in-box thanks to reader Garth. The new images (or at least, they’re new to me) still don’t show the movie’s creatures, just a lot of promo stills of characters running, a soldier firing a bazooka, and survivors filming themselves. Which makes you wonder — if weird looking creatures are trying to eat you, would you really be taking the time to film everything? Seriously?" (source)

More Cloverfield Set Pictures

| Labels: , , , , , , , , , | 1 comments |

jj abrams cloverfield monster movie 1-18-08I noticed earlier today when I added the images to the Lizzy Caplan (see: Cloverfield Pictures And A Cast Member Talks) that the pictures were labeled with numbers and not in sequence. When I tried to play around and see if the other numbers came up with different pictures I hit a wall and made a mental note to try again tonight.

It turns out the original 3 pictures that came with the Black Book article now have grown to 12 beautiful Cloverfield movie pictures. There's now a link to a gallery of pictures that I swear was not there this morning. You can get a great sense of the chaos of the evening and it looks like ole' Lizzy will have a hard time getting through quarantine.

IESB.NET Bootleg Cloverfield Trailer

| Labels: , , , , , , , , | 0 comments |

IESB.net is the first major site I've come across to post a copy of the new Cloverfield trailer. It's easy to get one on YouTube. It's just hard to keep one there.

Even though it is still a bootleg cut, the IESB.net site is huge and it will be interesting to see if they get a C&D letter from Paramount. (via 1-18-08 aka Cloverfield Blog)

Cloverfield Pictures And A Cast Member Talks

| Labels: , , , , , , | 0 comments |

jj abrams cloverfield movie 1-18-08(via 1-18-08 blog) New Cloverfield pictures and a new trailer. Christmas has come early. A few nice pictures accompany BlackBook's interview of Lizzy Caplan, one of the stars of Cloverfield.

Lizzy raised my eyebrows with this comment about speculation on the movie:

"BB: How did J.J. Abrams ensure that the story wasn’t leaked? Did you get to take the script home with you?

LC: They’re actually coming by to pick it up today. We had to swap out every new set of pages with the old pages. They’re bright red, the scripts, and watermarked with our names. So, nobody wanted to be the one to accidentally leak it. They’re pretty hardcore about all of that. I don’t know how they’ve managed to keep it so secretive, though, because people obviously want to know more. And nobody knows anything. The speculation is very inaccurate."

BB: What are some of the more ridiculous speculations?

LC: There’s all this YouTube stuff about analyzing the trailer. People are seeing things that aren’t there and making up stuff that isn’t true. There’s this one still of me and Jessica Lucas, who’s another actress in the film, and people thought there was some crazy lion behind us. But people are wrong.

Interesting. As long as it doesn't turn out to be Voltron I'll be happy.

Lizzy Caplan won over the hearts of outcasts everywhere in 2004’s Mean Girls, when she opened her venomous mouth to explain, “Evil takes a human form in Regina George. Don’t be fooled, because she may seem like your typical selfish, back-stabbing slut faced ho-bag, but in reality, she’s so much more than that.” After the success of that film, the trained pianist went on to play a handful of misfits, quick wits, and eye-rollers in various short-lived TV series.

Now, with the top-secret, J.J. Abrams-produced monster adventure ”Cloverfield” (not the film’s actual name, we’re guessing), Caplan is back to take on all sorts of scary beasts. This time around, however, they aren’t hidden beneath the lip-glossy veneer of high school cheerleaders and square-jawed football sleazes. Below, the rising star gets candid about losing roles, looking bad, and impersonating Jennifer Garner.

Cloverfield Trailer #2 - High Quality Video

11/15/07 | Labels: , , , , , , , | 10 comments |

The good news is the boys at unFiction have unearthed a fine, HQ Cloverfield #2 trailer. The bad news is that there have been about 3 others pulled within an hour of being put up. Let's hope this one stays up for awhile.

The cell-phone version that's been circulating around today is comprised of 3 parts. Someone put them together and you'll see that clip on YouTube and some other sites. Because it was cut into 1/3's it lost portions at the transitions.

So, this clip is the full deal with the entire video with much better quality. (perm linky)

New Cloverfield Trailer Out

| Labels: , , , , , , | 0 comments |

I've had a chance to see the new Cloverfield Trailer that will be in front of the Beowulf showings starting this week. Yes, it's legit. And yes, it's really cool.

The description of the new Cloverfield Trailer is pretty much how CHUD described it a few weeks back. Also, the title of the film is "Cloverfield," as mentioned in the same post. Also, we can start calling them "Cloverfield Monsters" with the 's' since there seems to be more than one.

No doubt copies of the trailer will bombard YouTube and the other online video hosts over the next few days. And no doubt they will be pulled very fast by Paramount Studios legal team. There's really no sense posting a video that won't be up for more than an hour, but I'll keep trying.

For now the only copy I have is a crappy cell-phone version that really is not worth watching. There are too many cuts and clips in the trailer that you have to see a high-quality version to take it all in. If you didn't know what was going on than you wouldn't get much from it.

I'd post that one but I'm on Paramount's shit-list and they told me not to post anymore 'unauthorized' pictures/videos on the movie.

The trailer looks great and will no doubt bring back the buzz to Cloverfield. A nice shot of the Statue of Liberty minus the head is near the end before the title of the movie, "Cloverfield," comes on. The characters of the movie keep their cameras rolling to make sure their message will be heard.

For a detailed description of the trailer (no video yet, sorry) check out: THE CLOVERFIELD TRAILER - SEEN! >
