The ending of Cloverfield will have people questioning the movie. I've had a couple of people send me questions on one instance in particular. It involves the very end of the movie so please only read further if you want to be spoiled or discuss it.

We have just witnessed the destruction of New York by the Cloverfield Monster and the U.S. Military. The camera that is recording Rob's night comes to an end in rubble and debrie. The tape ends and goes to the footage recorded underneath of when Rob and Beth are at Coney Island.

Here's where something happens that has some people talking. In the distance something big and black falls into the water. I couldn't tell if it fell from the sky or just popped up and went back under. I only caught a glimmer but a few people swore it fell from the sky.

Did Rob catch the first and last sighting of the Cloverfield Monster on tape? Did the Monster come for outer space or was it just there at this time swimming around the sea? If you happen to go see the movie again (or for the first time) pay special attention to this part and see what you think.

Anonymous said...: its called cloverfield because the camera that all this footage was taken from was named claverfield as a piece of evidence by the government and they named it that because they found it in central park (a field) after it was bombed and after bombings the first thing to grow is clovers hence cloverfield and the monster wasnt smaller jsut they angle at which it was being filmed made it appear smaller umm with your point about hud i honestly do not know what ur asking haha and it is generally accepted, at least i think it is, that the guys in the suits shot her..she didnt explode but if she did explode maybe the little monsters are poisoness or soemthing and the guy in the alley way jsut said something along the lines of turn around turn around the monsters ahead or something like that; February 10, 2008 at 3:45 PM

Secondly Marlena did explode, because when they first arrived at that medical facility you saw an image of a soldier being wheeled round with his chest exploaded. Thats what happens when you get bitten. There was all much speculation as to what it was called Cloverfield. But as the last guy explained. i think that pretty much summed it up. :)
I watched it for the fifth time today at the cinema. it really does blow your mind. One thing i still cant put together in all of this is the date of the Caui Station disaster. Dec 27th in which you are lead to believe the monster was suppoed to be the cause of it. But then was he not meant to be woken up may 23rd in cloverfield which explains why he looks so damn confused and pissed off. I mean waking up to getting shot by the american army with alot of screaming americans. I would be the same!. Also the satellite falling april 27th??? it means the monster could not have destroyed that oil station.; February 10, 2008 at 7:38 PM

This is a movie about a giant monster. Where do monsters come from? They come from eggs. That's scary. In this case, probably eggs from space.
Yes, it fell into the water from somewhere else.
Yes, it grew into a much larger beast underwater for about a month. Check out the dates on the timestamp.
Yes, when it got big enough it started exploring New York.

Anonymous said...: I have the DVD here on my computer and I had to rewind the ending piece at least 20 times to get it, but I finally did. I don't see how people were able to catch it the first time. If you're having trouble finding it, the first glimpse of the object is at frame 105500. Look at the cruiser on the right side, then go up about half way to the top of the screen, and then to the left a bit. Keep watching, and progress frame by frame. The dot goes in and out of view. The splash starts on 105524 and is gone by 105529. The frames are relative to the NTSC version of the DVD. If you're using PAL, the numbers will be different. The whole thing from the first glimpse of the dot, to the end of the splash is only 29 frames, which is just a hair under one second.; April 18, 2008 at 11:30 AM

While searching for satellite and ingredients by drilling, they woke Cloverfield (the monster).Where the cloverfield was located it was hot so whenever they were shooting at him it didnt effect him at all.

Unknown said...: good way to see it fall from the sky is its a bit to the left and it falls at the exact same time his watch starts to go off. if you have the .AVI or DVD just slow it down or pause it as quick as you can also if you have good hearing lol you can hear a very very very faint roar like how it sounds while demolishing the city; March 30, 2009 at 11:08 PM
Led said...: i tried to understand the background scene but seems to fade like with several other scene.Like with the creature itself. Based on have I read bout the movie, it says, its the extateresstials...in my opinion, its more than a mutated creature..

What is Cloverfield?

Welcome to 1-18-08 Project Cloverfield Blog.

Cloverfield is the J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias) produced monster flick directed by Matt Reeves. Get caught up on all the Cloverfield news including the viral world of Tagruato, TIDOwave, and Slusho!? And now Aladygma?

However, I love viral campaigns. Cloverfield taught me the fun of being involved with the viral world of movies and TV. That's why I'd like to branch out this site to cover some of the major viral campaigns as they are developing. Feel free to drop me a line or tip on any you find interesting.

Welcome to Cloverfield

Very few facts emerged from the viral campaign that was Cloverfield. It all started after a short, teaser trailer for Cloverfield appeared with the Transformers movie in early July of 2007. Since then, speculation surrounded what the title of the movie would be (Monstrous, Overnight, etc...) and what the monster really is and why it is tearing up New York City.

A few pictures and covert videos from the film showed up online and there were only a few core facts we knew of including the poster, the teaser trailer, and a few websites at 1-18-08, Tagruato Corp, and Slusho .

In November, the official full-length Cloverfield trailer was released that helped open up the story as well as cement the "Cloverfield" name for the movie. A short glimpse of the Cloverfield Monster was seen but for most people they still had little or no clue as to what it was.

The movie centered around five young New Yorkers throwing their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives. Cloverfield opened the weekend of 1-18-08 and set box office records for a movie in January with a monster take of over $40M. Get Started with the Cloverfield Viral Marketing

If you're new to the Cloverfield viral world than let's get started. First off, for the beginners let's look at what we're talking about.

What does viral marketing mean? Click here.

1-18-08.com Updates with pictures randomly. Each picture is layered onto of the previous update and all can be dragged and moved around the screen. Click and hold the mouse to 'grab' an image and move it around. While holding the image, shake it back and forth quickly and it will flip over. Some images have writing on the back.

Slusho This is the Japanese frozen drink made from a secret ingredient gathered from the bottom of the ocean. Slusho gives you a kick and makes you extremely happy. Prior to 1-18-08 Slusho was not sold in the US. However, recent FDA approval gave Slusho clearance to come to the states. Rob Hawkins, the lead character, was recently promoted to vice-president of Slusho and was on his way to Japan the night of the attack. Slusho is owned by the Tagruato Corp. of Japan. Slusho also first made an appearance on J.J. Abrams Alias during a scene where characters buy the drink at a store.

Tagruato This ficticious Japanese company is the parent company of Slusho as well as the Yoshida Medical Research, Bold Futura, and ParafFUN! Wax Distributors. Besides drilling the oceans for Slusho ingredients, Tagruato builds everything from space satellites to medical gear.

T.I.D.O wave An activist group set out to bring to light all the damage Tagruato has done to the envirnoment.

Jamie and Teddy A minor character from the movie, Jamie popped up on a 1-18-08.com picture and the MySpace profiles for the movies characters before getting famous for her "Jamie and Teddy" website. The site is comprised of video journals from Jamie. The site is password protected but can be accessed by the password "jllovesth"
